Matthew Lindsey started his journey to Breakaway Prep as a tutor for The Princeton Review in his hometown of Atlanta, GA. He spent almost five years with the company, prepping students for the SAT, GRE, LSAT, and GMAT in Atlanta, Chicago, and New York. At the same time, he was able to put his B.S. in film from Northwestern University to use by pursuing a career in photography in New York. Having grown up playing a number of musical instruments, he eventually shifted professional and creative gears to follow his first love of music. He worked in New York as a professional bass player and singer for almost twenty years before heeding the call of the South, pulling up stakes, and moving to Austin.
Night owls may spot him around various parts of town wielding an ever-growing
array of vintage basses for an ever-growing array of local and out-of-town
musicians, and he firmly believes that Austin has justly earned its reputation as
Live Music Capitol of the World. He will not enter the ongoing Breakaway Prep catfight
amongst the various offices about what goes best on pizza, as his preferences tend
towards the ribs from Smitty’s Market in Lockhart, nor will he justify his genetic
hatred of the New York Yankees; instead, he will only smile as he ponders never
having to shovel his car out from a snowstorm ever, EVER again.
Where We Are
I thought that Breakaway was a big help for my college search and application process. It gave me set deadlines and guidance in terms of what I should be doing in order to submit my best applications possible. I feel that this guidance was a great help and it definitely helped to ease my stress throughout the application process.Matthew C., Duke University
